Afghanistan
Ode to Canadian Soldiers

Slideshow tribute song for the Canadian Soldiers in Afghanistan. The song which was written and recorded by John MacPhee, Paul Schram and Brad Howe (http://www.miragemusic.ca/) was ordered played on armed forces radio in Afghanistan by CDS General Rick Hillier.

John MacPhee, a native of P.E.I., enlisted in the Canadian Army on January 14th, 1955. He went on to serve for 3 years during which time he was based in Petawawa, Borden and Gagetown. John was with the 2nd Battalion Canadian Guards which primarily consisted of the Princess Patricia's who had just returnd from the Korean War, along with many new recruits. John valued his time spent in the service and appreciated the training he received. The Discipline and duty he learned has served him well through the years. This song is John's tribute to the Canadian Soldiers in Afghanistan and around the world.

Paul Schram and Brad Howe have been friends and bandmates since High School. They have always liked the BIG sound, lots of instruments, textures, harmonies, so of course, once they got a hold of the song and went to work in Brad's studio, it turned into what you'll hear. Paul and Brad are very proud of the song and the inspiration that was given to them by John. John was overwhelmed when he heard what Mirage had done to his ditty from the fiddle.
